US IC 90th Anniversary Celebrations

Two of our ladies, Daphne Seigal and Muriel Cherry, represented IC SA at the La Corretta cup as part of the US IC 90th anniversary celebrations. The host club was the Chevy Chase Country Club in Bethesda, Washington with 170 players from 17 countries competing in the various IC trophy events.

The La Carretta was always going to be a strong event and was won by IC GB with IC France as runners up. The format required one lady of over 50 and one lady of over 60 and our players knew the going was going to be very tough. Having said that, they had some very competitive doubles matches and almost edged out Australia.

The Chevy Chase Country club was the most attractive venue and the matches were played on the immaculate Har-Tru clay courts. The club also hosted the opening and closing dinners, as well as an All-American barbecue which were held on the lawns on a warm summers evening.

The highlight of their trip outside of the tennis, was the “Monumental Evening” tour of Washington. The 2-mile guided tour on foot gave them a fascinating historical look at some of Americas iconic monuments.

Both Daphne and Muriel will forever be grateful to the US IC for a wonderful week spent forging new friendships with tennis comrades from around the globe.

IC SA are proud of the way these two ladies “flew the flag” for their country and congratulate them on their performance and the way they promoted not only IC SA but South Africa in general.
