IC SA Represented at La Carreta Cup In Belgium

We have been able to follow up on last years participation in the La Carreta cup with two ladies, Rene Plant and Rosanne Duke, representing us this year. The two IC events, namely the Columbus Trophy and La Carreta cup, are being held at the Royal International Lawn Tennis Club of Belgium in Brussels as part of the Belgium IC 75th anniversary celebrations.

Last year Daphne Seigel and Muriel Cherry took part in the same event in Washington, so we are delighted to be able to support an official IC event for the second year running.

Both our players are experienced in having represented IC SA in the past with Rene Plant the most experienced having taken part on the WTA circuit. Possibly one of her best tournaments was at Wimbledon in 1986 when Rene lost in the third round to Martina Navratilova. Rene later became coach to the South African Federation cup team.

The competition will be fierce in Belgium, and we are sure they will be up against players who have just as much, if not more experience, than they have but we are confident that they will not only do IC SA proud, but also the country. One of the main themes of the IC movement fellowship and friendship, and this will be meet in large quantities during their time in Belgium.

We wish both players a great tournament and am sure that they “fly the SA flag” with pride and confidence both on and off the court. The motto of “Hands across the net, friendship across the ocean” will definitely be a major theme of their time in Brussels.
