April 2025 Has Vosloorus got its own Coco Gaugh? I am delighted to report that our 13-year-old girl, Siya Salinga won the Gauteng East under 14 Gold event in the last tournament. Siyas ability has been there to be seen for a while but her breakthrough wins at tournament level came in the most dramatic of fashions. In the semi final she beat the number 1 seed 76 62 and then in the final she beat the girl who had put out the number 2 seed 64 64. For a tiny 13-year-old her maturity is way beyond her years. She is prepared to rally for any length of time before going for a winner or has worn her opponent into making a mistake. Her court coverage is phenomenal and no rally appears to be too long for her to retain concentration. Even being so small she is prepared and willing to come to the net but only when the occasion arises by which time she has maneuvered her opponent out of position. Although the coach at Vosloorus has done an incredible job over the years, we now feel that for Siya to improve she must be exposed to better and more individual training. We are looking at the possibility of her attending the Balderstone Sports Institute tennis academy on a trial basis to see if they agree that Siya has the ability to go further in the game through there concentrated system. We have christened her “Ther Coco Gaugh of Vosloorus” and is by far the best young player that has come through the system there. She could well become a role model for other kids in the township and be a shining example of the work IC Philanthropy has done there. Previous Article A Successful Year Ends
